The stooges are a trio of shiftless detectives who are given 24 hours to find the murderer of Slug McGurk. They have a guy named Chopper in jail who willingly confesses to the crime, but they are confused by his wording and go out looking for another suspect. When the real killer finds out that Chopper had confessed, he becomes upset that someone else is taking credit for his crime and starts shooting at the boys
